Shortly after the United States lifted most mask mandates, we began to see an uptick in cases.
So much so, in fact, that rumor of another lockdown is circulating.
With the highly-contagious Delta variant now the dominant strain in our country, certain cities and businesses are beginning to re-implement their mask mandates.
This says a lot about the effectiveness of masks in the fight against COVID-19.
Let’s take a closer look.
How masks work
The coronavirus is spread through respiratory droplets that are expelled from a sick person’s nose and mouth when they speak, sneeze, or cough.
The purpose of wearing a mask is to block these particles from being released by a sick person and inhaled by a healthy person. Not only does it aid in preventing you from getting sick, but it can also stop you from spreading it (whether you know you have it or not).
Study after study has proven the effectiveness of masks–even before the COVID-19 pandemic. If every person on the planet would simply wear a mask when going in public, we could significantly drop the transmission rate and avoid another lockdown.
Do masks really matter?
When masks are widely used, fewer COVID patients are hospitalized, which results in hospitals having more beds for common procedures, as well as emergencies. Also, hospitals are more likely to allow visitors when there are fewer COVID patients.
During the height of the surge last year, many hospitals didn’t allow family members to visit their loved ones in the hospital. Here in Lafayette, Louisiana, our hospitals are slowly resorting back to these measures.
The only masks that “don’t work” are cheap, low-quality ones that are too thin, don’t fit, and are worn improperly. If your mask is constantly falling off of your face, or you’re intentionally wearing it below your nose, there’s no question that it won’t work.
Understanding mask sizing
Never trust a “one-size-fits-all” mask. Not everyone has the same face shape, which is why you should never fall for this.
At Quality Face Wear, our adjustable cloth face masks fit most people–even those with facial hair. These masks come with a slide-able component on each ear loop that lets you adjust it to fit the size of your face.
When you order through us, you can also select a nose bridge, 3-ply upgrade, or extra large size as an add-on to your mask. If you’re ordering in bulk, you can even customize your masks and place your logo on them. Contact us today to request a quote!
