How to Keep the School COVID-Free During Summer Classes

by | Apr 30, 2021 | schools

Most Americans are looking forward to a stress-free summer after a long and unconventional (to say the least) school year.

But unfortunately for teachers and students with summer courses, this much-needed break won’t come just yet, so COVID precautions must still be taken to keep everyone safe. Continue reading to learn how to keep school COVID-free during summer classes.

What parents and students need to know

Every item a student brings into the classroom will need to be cleaned regularly. This is essential to keeping your school safe, and can include anything from backpacks and uniforms, to face coverings and even pencil cases.

Be sure to email each student or their parents the following wash instructions:

Use high heat when washing clothes

When washing your school items, put your washing machine on a high heat setting (ideally at least 140°F). Hot water is best for removing germs and heavy soil. For delicate pieces, make sure to abide by any fabric care instructions in order to avoid shrinkage, fading, and damage.

Use a bleach-based detergent

Using regular detergent will suffice as long as it’s bleach-based. The heat of the water in combination with a bleach product will kill a higher percentage of viruses and germs by stopping them from reproducing.

Wash masks after every use

Reusable cloth face masks must be washed after every use. Because of this, we recommend having at least one for every day of the school week, so that you’re not having to do laundry everyday.

Because viruses and bacteria flourish in damp environments, you’ll want to make sure you let your masks dry completely (ideally by tumble washing) before wearing them again.

Backpacks and fabric pencil cases should be washed at least once a week, and plastic pencil cases can be wiped down with your standard disinfectant wipes or spray.

What administrators can do

While your students and parents are hustling on a daily basis to keep their property safe and sanitized, you can keep them safe in the classroom with UVGI air scrubbers like Spiro-Max.

Spiro-Max is the mac daddy of all disinfectants. Given that COVID-19 is an airborne virus, you need something that kills it in the air AND on surfaces–which is exactly what this air scrubber does.

Spiro-Max can be installed in your air handling units, continuously sanitizing the air with UV light as it circles through. This type of disinfectant is completely safe, does not use any harmful chemicals, and can kill up to 99.9% of viruses and bacteria both on surfaces and in the air.

These devices perform hourly cleanings, can cover up to 750,000 cubic square feet, and are extremely low maintenance! If you keep it running 24/7, the only upkeep necessary is an easy-to-install lamp replacement once a year.
